Welcome
All services are free of charge in the Sala Borsa library. You can consult and borrow books in several languages, videos, DVDs and musical CDs, for children and youngsters as well. You can read international dailies and magazines, surf on the Internet, ask the librarians for help to get information about town services, study opportunities, professional and leisure activities. Books and CD-ROMs are available for you to learn Italian and other languages. The library organizes guided tours in your mother tongue: write for information to visiteguidatesalaborsa@comune.bologna.it The librarians are at your disposal to help you. Books, films and music
In the library there aren't only books in Italian. You can find books in English, French, Spanish, German and also in
In the Young People section of the library, you can find illustrated books and novels, some of them bilingual, in 48 different languages altogether. In the library, you can also find CDs of Italian, foreign, jazz, classical and ethnic music. In addition, there are many films (both VHS and DVD) in Italian, but also in English, French, Spanish, German and in the mother tongues of several foreign groups present in Bologna. A section of Bollywood movies in hindi, english, urdu, bangla, is also available. CDs and videos, like books, may either be borrowed or consulted in the library.
Newspapers and magazines
Even if you are not a member of our library, you can have free access to several Italian daily newspapers and magazines. Along with these, you can also find Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Tagalog periodicals.
Our library also collects periodicals specifically addressed to immigrants who live in Italy and published in their mothertongue: Albanian, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Tagalog, Ukrainian.
How to look on the catalogue for what you are interested in
By using the catalogue, you can look for the materials the library owns in the various languages.
- To look for a book in your language: connect to the library catalogue, sselect the category "Libri, riviste, risorse digitali" among those proposed in the upper part of the page, type the name of the language wished in the field "Lingua" and click on Ricerca.
- To look for a music CD in your language: connect to the library catalogue, select the category "Musica" " among those proposed in the upper part of the page, type the name of the language wished in the field "Lingua" and click on Ricerca.
- To look for films in your language: connect to the library catalogue,select the category "Video e audiolibri" among those proposed in the upper part of the page, type the name of the language wished in the field "Ricerca libera" and click on Ricerca. In this case the result could be not entirely precise, but it is not possible at the moment to look for films in foreign languages in a more effective way! Remember that the library acquires many DVDs that enable the viewer to choose the language in which to listen to the film and to read the subtitles. The various languages available are generally shown on the case.
- To look for documents in your language in the Sala Borsa Ragazzi library, connect to the library catalogue of the Sala Borsa Ragazzi library, select the category you wish among those proposed in the upper part of the page, select the "Altri campi" button (below left), type the name of the language wished in the field "Lingua" and click on Ricerca.
Internet
People having joined the library have access to the computers free of charge to surf on the Internet, to send and receive e-mails, to use writing and calculation programmes. With the computers of the library you can consult websites from all over the world, write e-mails and texts in Arabic, Chinese, Russian and other languages in non-Roman alphabets.
All computers are in addition provided with headphones for the listening of music and news through websites from the whole world.

You can borrow dictionaries, handbooks and grammars to begin the study of a language or to improve its knowledge. You can find below a selection, prepared by the librarians, of books, DVDs and CD-ROMs, arranged by language.
Online magazines, radio and TV
We list some links giving access to the websites of radios, magazines and TV channels of your country.
- Stranieri in Italia Information and service portal addressed to immigrants in Italy. It also offers a set of links to international newspapers, radio and television networks on the web.
- Internazionale.it The site of this Italian weekly provides, in the section named Edicola, a selection of links to the main newspapers, magazines and press agencies of countries in the whole world.
- Finfo Multilingual portal addressed to immigrants in Denmark. The Global Link section offers access to websites of different world countries, about all subjects. It also has a News section, with the various online information media.
- Onlinenewspapers.com Thousands of links to dailies from the whole world arranged by country.
- Newsconnect The Public Library of Toronto has created a virtual library gathering links, news portals and individual websites of dailies, magazines, radios and press agencies. Access by country, language, keyword, title.
Services for foreigners in Bologna
- The multiethnic town The Servizio per Immigrati (Immigrant Service) of the municipality of Bologna manages a portal providing legal data, information about the services, useful links for immigrants, refugees and gypsies.
- Ufficio Immigrazione (Immigration Office) - Provincia di Bologna The online guide of the Province to local services for foreigners is addressed to both staff and citizens. It includes informative boxes and detailed maps, with the help of which it is possible to locate offices and services.
- Osservatorio provinciale delle Immigrazioni di Bologna The Osservatorio provinciale delle Immigrazioni (Provincial Immigration Observatory) publishes a NewsLetter getting together events, institutional activities, legal update, training opportunities, funding possibilities, materials and projects concerning immigrants in the province.
- Melting Pot guide to services for foreigners The Ya Basta! association and the Progetto Melting Pot Europa have prepared a guide to help foreign citizens to find their way through the services and offices to apply to for employment, accommodation, health and family matters.
